ఈనెల 5 గరుడ పంచమి

మహోన్నతమైన శŒక్తికి...
అంతులేని భక్తికి ప్రతీక గరుడుడు.
ప్రహ్లాదశ్చామి దైత్యానాం
కాలః కలయతామహం ।
మృగాణాంచ మృగేంద్రోహం
వైనతేయశ్చ పక్షిణాం ।।
‘పక్షుల్లో గరుత్మంతుడు నేనే’ - శ్రీకృష్ణపరమాత్మ భగవద్గీతలో స్వయంగా చెప్పిన మాట ఇది.
ఇంతకుమించి గరుత్మంతుడి ఘనత చెప్పడానికి మరొక ఉదాహరణ అవసరం లేదు.

మరెవ్వరితో పోల్చలేనంత బలం గరుత్మంతుడి సొంతం. కేవలం తన రెక్కలు విసిరి రాక్షసుల ప్రాణాలు సంహరించే మహత్తరశక్తి అతనికి ఉంది. గరుడవేగం అందుకోవడం మరే ఇతర ప్రాణికీ సాధ్యం కాలేదని పురాణవచనం. శ్రీహరి వాహనంగా, దాసుడిగా మాత్రమే కాదు... తల్లిని దాస్యం నుంచి విడిపించిన గొప్ప పుత్రుడిగా గరుత్మంతుడు నేటితరానికి మార్గదర్శకుడు. శ్రావణ శుద్ధ పంచమి గరుత్మంతుడు పుట్టిన రోజు. ఆ రోజును గరుడ పంచమిగా జరుపుకోవడం ఆనవాయితీగా వస్తోంది. ఆయనను అర్చించిన వారికి సర్పబాధల నుంచి విముక్తి కలుగుతుందని శాస్త్రాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.

గరుత్మంతుడి పేరుతో అధర్వణవేదంలో ప్రత్యేకంగా ‘గరుడోపనిషత్తు’ ఉంది. ఇందులో గరుత్మంతుడిని ‘విషదహారి’ అనే పేరుతో ప్రత్యేకంగా వివరించారు. గœరుత్మంతుడి విగ్రహ స్వరూపం కూడా ఇందులో ఉంది. దీని ప్రకారం... గరుత్మంతుడు తన కుడిపాదాన్ని స్వస్తికంగా, ఎడమపాదాన్ని కుంచితంగా ఉంచి విష్ణువుకు నమస్కరిస్తున్న భంగిమలో ఉంటాడు. ఆభరణాలుగా శ్రేష్ఠమైన జాతికి చెందిన నాగుల్ని ధరిస్తాడు. వాసుకి అనే సర్పాన్ని యజ్ఞోపవీతంగా, తక్షకుడిని నడుముకు సూత్రంగా, కర్కోటకుడిని మెడలో హారంగా ధరిస్తాడు. కుడిచెవికి పద్ముడిని, ఎడమచెవికి మహాపద్ముడిని కుండలాలుగా పెట్టుకుంటాడు. శిరస్సుపై శంఖుడు, భుజాల మధ్య గుళికుడు అలంకారాలుగా ఉంటారు. ఇతర ఆభరణాలు కూడా సర్పాలే. అతడికి పొడవైన బాహువులు, పెద్ద మూపు, వంద చంద్రుల కాంతివంతమైన ముఖం ఉంటాయి. గరుత్మంతుడిని ధ్యానించడం, అర్చించటం వల్ల కలిగే ఫలితాలు ఈ ఉపనిషత్తులో ఉన్నాయి.
* పక్షిజాతిలో మరెవ్వరికీ దక్కనిది, గరుత్మంతుడికి మాత్రమే దక్కిన ఘనత అతని పేరుతోనే ఒక పురాణం ఏర్పడటం. వ్యాసమహర్షి రాసిన 18 పురాణాల్లో గరుడ పురాణం ఒకటి. శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు స్వయంగా గరుత్మంతుడికి ఉపదేశించిన ధర్మ రహస్యాలన్నీ ఇందులో ఉంటాయి. ఇలా ఒక సేవకుడు, పక్షిజాతికి చెందిన వ్యక్తిపేరుతో ఉన్న ఒకే ఒక పురాణం ఇది.
* గరుత్మంతుడి పరాక్రమానికి, శక్తికి ప్రతీకగా నిలిచే ఘట్టం రామాయణంలో ఉంది. ఇంద్రజిత్తు నాగాస్త్ర ప్రయోగంతో రామలక్ష్మణులిద్దరూ మూర్ఛపోతారు. నాగపాశాల నుంచి వారిని విడిపించటం ఎవరివల్లా కాలేదు. ఇంతలో గరుత్మంతుడు మహాప్రభంజనంగా దేవలోకం నుంచి వస్తాడు. అతడు వస్తున్నప్పుడు వీచిన గాలికి సముద్రం అల్లకల్లోలమవుతుంది. అతడు రామలక్ష్మణులను సమీపించటంతోనే వారిని బంధించిన నాగపాశాలన్నీ విడిపోతాయి. గరుడుడి స్పర్శతో క్షణకాలంలో గాయాలు మాని, వారిద్దరికీ దివ్యతేజస్సు కలుగుతుంది. గరుత్మంతుడే ఆదుకోకపోతే రామాయణం ఏ మలుపు తిరిగేదో?
* తిరుమల కొండపై శ్రీవారికి జరిగే బ్రహ్మోత్సవాల్లో అగ్రతాంబూలం గరుత్మంతుడిదే. శ్రీవారి ఉత్సవాల ప్రారంభసూచకంగా గరుడ చిత్రం ఉన్న పతాకాన్ని అర్చకస్వాములు ఎగురవేస్తారు. ఉత్సవాలకు రావాల్సిందిగా ముక్కోటి దేవతల్ని ఆయనే ఆహ్వానిస్తాడు. అలాగే, బ్రహ్మోత్సవాల్లో జరిగే వాహనసేవల్లో గరుడ వాహనసేవ ఎంతో ప్రత్యేకమైంది. దాసుడిగా, మిత్రుడిగా, విసనకర్రగా, ఆసనంగా, ఆవాసంగా, ధ్వజంగా... ఇలా తన జీవిత సర్వస్వాన్నీ శ్రీహరి సేవకు అంకితం చేసిన దాసోత్తముడైన ఆయనను వైష్ణవ సంప్రదాయంలో గరుడాళ్వార్‌ పేరుతో కొలుస్తారు.
* అన్నమాచార్యులు  తన సంకీర్తనల్లో అనేక చోట్ల ఈ పక్షీశ్వరుని స్తుతిస్తాడు. ‘గరుడధ్వజం బెక్కె కమలాక్షు పెండ్లికి పురుషులదివో వచ్చి పై పై సేవించెను’ అంటూ నల్లనిస్వామి వివాహ వేడుకల వైభవానికి ఆయన కూడా ఓ కారణమంటాడు అన్నమయ్య.

ప్రతి వ్యక్తీ రాత్రి నిద్రపోయే ముందు రామం స్కందం హనూమంతం వైనతేయం వృకోదరం । శయనే యఃపఠేన్నిత్యం దుస్వప్నం తస్య నశ్యతి ।। శ్లోకాన్ని చదువుకోవాలని శాస్త్రాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. రాముడు, సుబ్రహ్మణ్యస్వామి, హనుమంతుడు, గరుత్మంతుడు, భీముడు - వీరిని తలుచుకుంటే దుస్వప్నాలు కలగవని దీని భావం. మనిషికి కలిగే బాధను తీర్చే శక్తి పక్షికి ఉండటం గమనించదగిన విశేషం.

థాయ్‌లాండ్‌ దేశంలో శతాబ్దాల కాలంగా గరుత్మంతుడి ఆరాధన వ్యాప్తిలో ఉంది. ఇప్పటికీ అక్కడి అనేక చిత్రాల్లో గరుత్మంతుడి ఆకారం ప్రతిబింబిస్తూ ఉంటుంది. ప్రత్యేకించి అక్కడి ప్రభుత్వం తమ జాతీయచిహ్నంగా గరుత్మంతుడి చిత్రాన్ని ఎంపిక చేసుకుంది. థాయ్‌లాండ్‌ విమానయాన సంస్థలు తమ విమానాలకు ‘గరుడ’ అనే పేరు పెట్టుకున్నాయి. - కప్పగంతు రామకృష్ణ

ఆదికావ్యం రామాయణం శ్రీకారం చుట్టుకోవటానికి కారణం క్రౌంచపక్షి.
సీతమ్మ జాడను రామయ్యకు, వానరులకు చెప్పిన జటాయువు, సంపాతి పక్షి జాతికి చెందినవారే.
కృష్ణపరమాత్మ అందానికే అందం తెచ్చిన పింఛం నెమలిది.
తన కూతతో లోకాన్ని మేల్కొలిపేది, కార్యోన్ముఖులను చేసేది కోడి.
ఇలా ఎన్నో సందర్భాల్లో పక్షులు మనిషికి అండగా, ఆదర్శంగా ఉంటూ తమదైన అస్తిత్వాన్ని, ప్రత్యేకతను ప్రకటిస్తాయి.

ఖాండవవనంలో మమకారాలు... కృష్ణార్జునుల సహాయంతో అగ్నిదేవుడు ఖాండవ వనాన్ని దహిస్తుంటాడు. అప్పుడే పుట్టి, ఇంకా రెక్కలు రాని తన బిడ్డలతో అదే వనంలోని ఓ చెట్టుమీద ‘లావుక’ పక్షి జాతికి చెందిన జరిత నివాసం ఉంటుంది. భర్త మందపాలుడు అదే సమయంలో బయటకు వెళతాడు. అగ్నిదేవుడి తీవ్రరూపం చూసి, తనకు తన బిడ్డలకు మరణం తప్పదని భయపడుతుంది జరిత. తన ప్రాణం పోయినా బిడ్డల్ని కాపాడుకోవాలనుకుంటుంది. అక్కడే ఉన్న ఓ బిలంలోకి బిడ్డల్ని వెళ్లమంటుంది. అందుకామె పెద్ద కుమారుడు జరితారి ‘అమ్మా! మా ప్రాణాలు పోయినా ఫ£ర్వాలేదు. నువ్వు ఇక్కడి నుంచి ఎగిరిపో. నువ్వు జీవించి ఉంటే సంతానాన్ని మళ్లీ పొందడం ద్వారా మన జాతి నిలిచే అవకాశం ఉంది. ఒకవేళ భగవంతుడి దయ వల్ల మేం బతికితే తిరిగి ఇక్కడకు వద్దువుగాని’ అంటాడు. ఇంతలో అక్కడకు వచ్చిన మందపాలుడు అగ్నిదేవుడిని ప్రార్థించడంతో వారు నివసిస్తున్న చెట్టును దహించకుండా వదిలేస్తాడు. దీంతో ఆ పక్షి కుటుంబం మొత్తం క్షేమంగా ఉంటుంది. ఈ తల్లీబిడ్డల అనురాగాలు, ఆప్యాయతలు, కుటుంబ సంబంధాలను మనుషులు ఆదర్శంగా తీసుకోవాలని సూచిస్తూ నన్నయ తన మహాభారతం ఆదిపర్వంలో ఈ కథను రాశారు.

రామయ్యా... నేనున్నానయ్యా! ఎంత వెతికినా సీతమ్మ జాడ తెలియకపోవటంతో నిరాశకు గురైన హనుమంతుడి బృందం ప్రాయోపవేశం చెయ్యాలని నిశ్చయించుకుంటుంది. వారి మాటల మధ్యలో జటాయువు ప్రస్తావన వస్తుంది. ఇదంతా గమనిస్తూ ఆ పక్కనే ఉన్న సంపాతి తన తమ్ముడు జటాయువు మరణవార్త విని ఒక్కసారిగా భోరున విలపిస్తాడు. రెక్కలు తెగిన కారణంగా ఎగరలేని స్థితిలో ఉన్న సంపాతి వానరులను తన వద్దకు పిలిపించుకుని జరిగిన విషయమంతా తెలుసుకుంటాడు. ఉత్తమశ్రేణి పక్షిజాతికి చెందిన తాను చాలా దూరం చూడగలనని చెబుతూ, లంకలో సీతమ్మ తనకు కనిపిస్తోందని, అక్కడకు చేరుకుని సీతమ్మకు ధైర్యం చెప్పాలని అనేక సూచనలు చేస్తాడు.. దీంతో వానరులకు ఉత్సాహం కలుగుతుంది. ఏం చెయ్యాలో తెలియని పరిస్థితి నుంచి కార్యసాధనకు మార్గం దొరుకుతుంది. రామకార్యంలో భాగం పంచుకున్న పుణ్యానికి సంపాతికి రెక్కలు వస్తాయి. మానవుడు చెయ్యలేని మహత్తరమైన పనిలో పక్షిజాతి భాగం పంచుకుంది.

చిలుక చెప్పిన వేదం వేదవ్యాస మహర్షి తపస్సుకు మెచ్చి పరమేశ్వరుడు ప్రత్యక్షమై అతడికి గొప్ప జ్ఞాన సంపన్నుడైన పుత్రుడు జన్మిస్తాడని వరమిస్తాడు. ఒకసారి వ్యాసుడు అరణిని మధిస్తున్న సమయంలో అటుగా వచ్చిన ఘృతాచి అనే అప్సరసను చూసి ఆమెను తీవ్రంగా కోరుకుంటాడు. మహర్షి తనని శపిస్తాడేమోనని భయపడిన ఘృతాచి చిలుక రూపం ధరించి ఎగిరిపోతుంది. ఆ సమయంలో స్కలించిన వేదవ్యాసుడి వీర్యం నుంచి చిలుక ముఖంతో శుకమహర్షి జన్మిస్తాడు. పుట్టుకతోనే వేదాంతిగా ఉన్న శుకుడు తర్వాతి కాలంలో భాగవతాన్ని ఏడురోజుల్లో పరీక్షిత్తుకు ఉపదేశించి అతడు మోక్షాన్ని పొందేలా చేస్తాడు. మానవజాతి తరించే సులభమార్గాన్ని ఉపదేశించటానికి కారణమైంది పక్షిజాతికి చెందిన చిలుక.

త్రిగయల్లో కుక్కుట ధ్వజం! గయాసురుడిని సంహరించడం కోసం బ్రహ్మదేవుడు అతడి శరీరాన్నే వేదికగా చేసుకుని గొప్ప యజ్ఞం ప్రారంభిస్తాడు. ముందుగా చేసుకున్న నియమం ప్రకారం యజ్ఞం పూర్తికాకుండా కదిలితే ఆ రాక్షసుడిని త్రిమూర్తులు సంహరిస్తారు. యజ్ఞం పూర్తికావస్తున్నా రాక్షసుడు ఏమాత్రం కదలకుండా నిశ్చలంగా ఉంటాడు. ఇది గమనించిన పరమేశ్వరుడు కుక్కుట (కోడి) రూపంలో కూత కూస్తాడు. దీంతో సమయం ముగిసిందని భావించిన గయాసురుడు కదులుతాడు. నియమభంగం కావడంతో త్రిమూర్తులు అతడిని పాతాళానికి తొక్కేస్తారు. గయాసురుడి శిరస్సు, నాభి, పాద ప్రాంతాలు మహాపుణ్యక్షేత్రాలుగా ఏర్పడతాయి. పరమేశ్వరుడు కుక్కుటేశ్వరుడిగా అవతరిస్తాడు. ఈ ప్రాంతమే పాదగయగా (ప్రస్తుతం ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌లోని పిఠాపురం)గా ప్రసిద్ధి పొందింది. రాక్షసుడి సంహారానికి, గొప్ప క్షేత్రం ఆవిర్భవించటానికి పక్షిజాతికి చెందిన కోడి సహాయం అవసరమైంది.

Then death said, "Well your name is the next on my list...".

Guy:- "Okay why don't you take a seat and I will get you something to eat before we go?".

Then death said,"All right.. ".

The guy gave death some food with sleeping pills in it, death finished eating and fell into a deep sleep.

The guy took the list & removed his name from top of the list and put into the bottom of the list.

When death woke up he said to the guy,

"Because you have been so very nice to me, I will start from the BOTTOM of the list.."

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?


Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.. If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.
